We tracked 16.7 million pieces of mail to measure on-time mail delivery efficiency. Here’s what we discovered.

When you launch a direct mail campaign, some of the biggest questions are: “When will this reach my prospects? or “How do I know my mailer was successfully delivered?”

Timing is everything in marketing. If your mailers arrive too late, it can disrupt your promotional campaign, multi-channel alignment (i.e. social media ads), your team's follow-up schedule, or your key deadlines.

To pull back the curtain on transit times, we're sharing our internal mail delivery report from June 2026. We tracked tens of millions of pieces of mail to measure how efficiently they moved from our production facility (the BMEU) to customers' mailboxes across the country.

Before we dive into the results, here's why you can trust the data.

The Data Behind the Numbers

This wasn't a small sample size. In June 2026, we tracked more than 16.7 million pieces of mail, capturing official USPS delivery scans for 16.5 million of them.

These scans are generated the moment a mail carrier delivers a piece to a home or business, giving us a reliable, nationwide view of direct mail delivery performance.

So, what did the data reveal?

97.42% of Mail Was Delivered On Time or Early

To understand these results, it helps to know how a direct mail job works: once your campaign is designed and printed, it is sorted, bundled, and handed off to the USPS, which triggers a targeted 7-day In-Home delivery window.

Essentially, this window is the specific calendar week during which the USPS aims to deliver your marketing materials directly into your target customers' mailboxes.

Our performance within this window was remarkable:

  • 85.95% of mail was delivered precisely within the target delivery window.
  • 11.47% arrived ahead of schedule.
  • 97.42% arrived on time or ahead of schedule.

Of course, no mail system is completely perfect. Real-world variables like equipment failures, severe weather, or massive local traffic events, whether it's the World Cup coming to town or an event like Taylor Swift’s wedding, can easily cause logistics bottlenecks.

Yet, despite those unpredictable hurdles, our numbers show that you can confidently plan your marketing campaigns knowing your mail is expected to arrive when it's scheduled—and sometimes even sooner.

The Bottom Line

If you’ve heard that direct mail is dead because it can’t keep up with the speed and timeliness of digital advertising, the data proves that is completely false.

Direct mail is far from slow. In fact, when backed by the right logistics team, it’s a precision instrument. With a 97%+ on-time or early delivery rate, your campaigns arrive faster, more reliably, and with greater impact than ever before. You don't have to sacrifice efficiency to get the high conversion rates that physical mail can deliver.
